Why Choose YWallet?

YWallet, developed by Hanh (a respected Zcash community contributor), stands out among Zcash wallets for its exceptional sync speed and advanced features. While Zashi is simpler, YWallet is preferred by power users who want full control, faster sync via the Warp Sync algorithm, and support for multiple accounts.

Installation

Download YWallet from the official YWallet website (ywallet.app) for iOS, Android, or desktop. Always download from the official source — do not use third-party APKs.

Creating Your First Account

On first launch, choose "New Account." YWallet will generate a 24-word seed phrase. Write this down offline and store it securely — it's your only wallet backup. Then set a wallet PIN or biometric lock.

YWallet supports multiple accounts per seed, which is useful for separating funds by purpose (e.g., one account for mining income, one for personal spending).

Syncing the Blockchain

YWallet's Warp Sync algorithm downloads only block headers and note commitments rather than full blocks, making initial sync dramatically faster than most wallets — often completing in under 10 minutes versus 30+ for other wallets.

You can set a birthday height (the block height from which to start scanning) to further speed up sync if you know your wallet is new. For fresh wallets, leave the birthday at the current block height.

Receiving and Shielding ZEC

Navigate to Receive to get your Unified Address or individual Sapling/Orchard z-address. Share this to receive ZEC. If you receive ZEC to a t-address, tap "Shield" from the main screen to move it to your shielded balance in one transaction.

Sending a Private Shielded Transaction

  1. Tap Send on the main screen
  2. Enter or scan the recipient's z-address or Unified Address
  3. Enter amount (YWallet will deduct a small fee automatically)
  4. Optionally add an encrypted memo (up to 512 bytes)
  5. Confirm and send — the wallet generates the zk-SNARK proof locally

Advanced Features

YWallet also supports Ledger hardware wallet integration for cold storage of shielded ZEC — a unique feature among Zcash wallets. It also has viewing key export for compliance/auditing purposes and a built-in ZEC/USD price display.
